POW Week 1: Indigenous Past, Present, and Future & The Local Landscape

  • The Dailey Collective 1004 4th st sioux Sioux City, IA 51101 (map)

Week 1 Topics: “Indigenous Past, Present, and Future” and “Local Landscape and Waterways”

featuring presentations by Trisha Rivers, Karina Pedroza, and David Hoferer

This series of interactive workshops provides an opportunity for all community members to join in and engage in meaningful conversation centered around our environment. Local artists will help lead a creative twist by turning these conversations into artwork around Sioux City, Iowa with collaboration from community members.

Our first week will be focusing on the Indigenous perspective of what water signifies and how water is important to cultural traditions and practices. This will lead into the bigger picture of what our local landscape and waterways looked like in comparison to present day.

We will then take time to paint storm drains within proximity of our location.

The goals of this series is to "plant the seed" (pun intended) about how we interact with our environment through community-based art while inspiring thought-provoking ideas and approaches to preserve the world around us. What we do here in the Siouxland impacts many communities downstream.
